Hi I’m Lauren – I’m so excited to be working with Kenya Relief as the BHOG Missionary.
A little bit of background on me – I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in both studio art/digital media & art history, and a master’s degree in American Art History. During grad school I taught art & art therapy activities at a day program for adults with special needs. After I finished my graduate work I went back to school and worked in my local emergency department for three years, before switching to art full time last year! I currently live in Birmingham, Alabama but am frequently up in Huntsville, AL for art markets or to help with digital media projects at my church, and to help chaperone youth events (my mom is a youth director!) at the church and in the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama.
I first heard about Kenya Relief through my parents, who made their first trip about five years ago with the Billings’ team! Now, my parents are team leaders for Team Five – we do general medical/acute care with outreach into various communities and get a lot of patients set up to come to the clinic when surgical teams will be there!
When I’m on campus I’ll be working with the children for art & art therapy activities and will try to keep everyone updated with their kid’s pictures and their likes/hobbies! I know how special it is for the children to always feel like they have someone in their corner – and am really excited to get to know them and you all better as a missionary for KR!
