KenyaRelief.org is a non-profit organization that strives to bring relief to members of a community in Kenya called Migori. We started with an orphanage of 10 children and have more than 100 now. These children have sponsors who send $75 a month to provide food, shelter, health care and education. Our goal is to truly impact the community. Therefore, we have built three water pumps, raised money to donate to local schools, implemented programs to create jobs for the unemployed and much more. Our purpose is not to give handouts but hand-ups so that the Kenyans will be empowered to make a difference themselves. Please look around our site to see how you can make a difference.
A survivor of a deadly and rare cancer, Steve James started KenyaRelief.org in memory of his daughter in 2003. Brittney had sponsored a child in Kenya and hoped to visit him. But she died before she had a chance to meet Newton, and today Steve carries out her dream, convinced that one person can make a difference. Please click on the picture to learn more.
Because of the death toll from HIV, a whole generation of people has died, leaving their children behind. About 50,000 children in the Migori area are left behind, and only 500 are taken care of in orphanages. Our focus is to house, educate and love these children to bring back hope for a better future. Except for our administrative assistant, our staff consists of non-paid volunteers. Steve James is our president, Pat Livingston is our child coordinator, Katie Lambert is our administrative assistant and Dero Sanford is our communication director. But it takes many more volunteers to make this project happen.
